From the Vicar
We will celebrate Candlemas with a service in church on Sunday 1st February at 6.30pm. Candlemas (actual date February 2nd) is a major feast where Christ is presented at the Temple and this happens exactly 40 days after his birth on Christmas Day.
This is a significant event not only in the Jewish culture commemorating Mary and Joseph’s fulfilment of presenting the firstborn son to God, but it also marks the end of the extended period of the Christmas season. Traditionally, Christians would bring candles to be blessed as a symbol of the presence of Christ to dispel the darkness in the world and we also are encouraged to light a candle at our homes and in Church throughout the year.
It smay still feel like the “Bleak Midwinter” even though the days are slowly but surely getting longer. Occasionally we experience some sunshine which hopefully cheers us up as we move into the new year.
I would like to thank everyone for your generosity and support over the past year, which has helped our church continue in its work. Please continue to give if you are able, as we are having challenges to meet daily expenses and to pay the parish share. May I also encourage us all to consider leaving a legacy to the church in your Will. This is a glorious way of making sure your name is remembered by generations to come long after we have departed this life.
Finally, please look out for new and regular events taking place in our Church as the year unfolds. We look forward to a positive and hopeful year ahead.
Your Vicar
Reverend Sydwell Isaac
